Whether vitamin supplements can be included in your diet?

Research indicates that 42% of adults in U.S.A. have been taking vitamin supplements in the last year and it is highest in the age group of 55-65. Each year the country spends millions of dollars on distributing vitamins and mineral supplements for under privileged people. Generally cod liver oil and multivitamins are the main vitamin supplements that are sold faster rate in the medical stores.

Taking vitamin supplements in the form of pill does some good to your health as long as the dosage is limited. Vitamins are group of substances required for the normal growth and development of your body. Most of the vitamins are available in your daily diet. If you follow a well balanced diet you need not take any vitamin supplement in the form of pill. Major vitamin requirements of your body are met through the diet. However some people are of opinion that taking vitamins in the form of tablets is enough and there is no need to include them in their daily diet. Some others consume vitamins as daily routine without even consulting doctor. It is good to take vitamins in any form. The truth is that taking vitamins through foods or diets is not equal to taking them through pills. Studies show that vitamin supplements will not have the same effect on your body as that of vitamins consumed through foods.

For instance an apple contains rich source of vitamin C which is required for building immunity. But you can take vitamin C tablets which is also one form of vitamin supplement. The research done at Cornell University shows that apple is very effective in fighting diseases since it contains many good elements such as antioxidants and poly-phenols which prevent you from cancer. However, if you consume vitamin C tablet you add the benefit of only vitamin C and nothing more than that. Hence taking fresh fruits and vegetables which are rich in vitamins produces more benefits than taking them in the form of pills. Eating 100 grams of apple will give you the same antioxidant effect as that of taking 1500 mg of vitamin C tablet. You can compare the results and find out which is better for your health. Taking vitamins in the form of pills will produce least effect as that of eating them as fruit or vegetable. So your body needs huge amount of vitamin supplements if you prefer to take them through tablets.

Similarly taking fiber rich natural foods have great effect on your health. Fiber products are available in the form of powder in the stores. But they will not produce the same effect as that of eating fiber rich fruit of foods. Including fiber in your daily diet will reduce your hunger drive. Hence you prefer to take less food for the next meal if you take one banana or whole wheat bread. That is not the case if you take fiber powder or pills.

For achieving better results and to bring down your weight include vitamin rich foods in your healthy diet plan. Remember supplements in the form of pills are meant only for those who are not in a position to eat fruits daily.

Diet changes can reduce obesity in children

Of late more and more number of children is getting obese and they are prone to diabetics at younger age itself. There are two main factors which account for obesity in children. They are wrong life style and unhealthy eating habits. Gone are those days where we used to play for hours together after coming from school since that was the only entertainment. But now due to the development of technology children sit in front of television and internet spending most of their time in indoor activities. They don’t literally go out for playing and videogames and internet are the powerful tools which attract them and make them sit at one place. So, they do not have any physical activity at home. In order to overcome this problem, parents have to plan healthy diets for their child that does not contain fatty items and oily foods.

First step the parents should motivate the child to have good and healthy food habits. It is truly impossible to change the child suddenly who is in the habit of taking junk food items. It is difficult to educate them also since they are very young. How to change the daily diet of your child? Motivate them with small rewards and appraisal. Any child will listen to his mother if she is ready to give the favorite game or chocolate. You give them one candy if they finish one meal completely without wasting anything. Never let them feel they are devoid of favorite fried food or dessert. Slowly include lot of vegetables and fiber foods in your child’s menu. This will bring down the daily calorie intake and the child may not feel hungry for some time if he eats lot of fiber food. Always keep some fruits and fresh vegetables at reachable place for the child.

Engage them in various physical activities. Encourage them to play outside the house. You can join with them if you can to play football or cricket which involves more muscular action. Any child would love to go for a ride on bicycle. Buy him an attractive cycle or scooter and may be a tricycle if he is too young. Motivate him to cycling for at least half an hour daily. Lot of scooters is now available in the market with added features and pretty colors. You can gift him with a good scooter on his next birthday.

Do not allow the child to eat while watching television, since the child has no knowledge of what he eats during that time. Be strict in following this plan. Teach him the correct eating method of chewing well and swallowing. The food when mixed with saliva gets digested easily. It is good to eat your breakfast slowly taking at least 15 minutes. Include one raw vegetable or fruit in the daily breakfast menu. Substitute junk food and snacks with cereals and sprouted pulses. Cultivate the habit of taking fruits each day. Do not insist them to eat more and provide them small quantity of foods 4 or 5 times with regular intervals.
